Get PSTN connectivity with the SIP Switch

Get an accounts with one or several suitable SIP ITSPs (list of ITSP's *). Login to your Internet Gate (http://198.168.0.1) and click on the SIP Switch menu item.

These are the steps you need to take to setup an ITSP
account on the SIP Switch (detailed info below):

  1. Setup your ITSP account(s).
  2. Decide who should receive incoming calls.
  3. Configure one or several local user accounts.
  4. Configure your SIP phone(s)/client(s) to register on your Internet Gate.
* If you use an ITSP which allow Multiple Incoming calls from PSTN and Multiple Outgoing calls to PSTN (see list of ITSP's) you can simultaneously make and receive multiple phone calls on a single account.

Setup your ITSP account(s)
You can setup your ITSP account(s) using (A) the Dialplan Wizard or (B) manually.

To use the Dialplan Wizard just click the View/Get Example link at the bottom of the Dial Plan frame and follow the instructions that follow.



Setting up ITSP account in the SIP Switch manually
1. Below SIP Accounts and Incoming Call Processing, enter: (example)



  a Account type: XF&Reg
  b Ext.: <blank>
  c SIP User Name: your full registry name at the ITSP, e.g. smartcompany@fritsp.fr (a French ITSP account)
  d User ID: (ITSP authentication name), e.g. smartcompany
  e Password: (ITSP authentication password)
Specific settings required by: Vonage

2. Now you need to edit an outgoing dialplan.

i) If you want to use a specific ITSP as default, simply enter the ITSP contact name in the Default PSTN Gateway below Dial Plan:



ii) or enter your different ITSPs below Dial Plan: (example)
  a Prefix: e.g. 00033 (0 for external call + 00 for international call + country code to France)
  b Head: <blank>
  c Tail: choose e.g. 0-9.+-#*
  d Minimum Tail: e.g. 6
  e Action: choose e.g. Forward
  f Forward to: (the ITSP account you wish to use when dialling a number starting with prefix), e.g. smartcompany@fritsp.fr *
  g Add Prefix, Forward: e.g. 0033 (if the ITSP require that you enclose 00 + countrycode in the phone no.)

* the ITSP account must first be registererd below SIP Accounts and Incoming Call Processing (see SIP User Name above).
Specific settings required by: Vonage

Below is an example where three different ITSP accounts is being used: smartcomp@usitsp.com (a US ITSP account), smartcomp@germitsp.de (a German ITSP account) and smartcomp@fritsp.fr (a French ITSP account). When dialling a number starting with e.g. 00033 (0 for external call + 00 for international call + country code to France) the call will be routed over the Internet via the French ITSP account (smartcomp@fritsp.fr) to a French telephone customer, making it a local phone call nomatter where you call from.


Decide who should receive incoming calls

You need to decide who should receive incoming calls on the ITSP phone no. (e.g. one single user, a small number of users in sequence or all users at the same time). Below SIP Accounts and Incoming Call Processing, to the right of the ITSP account that you previously specified, enter: (example)

  a Forward Action: e.g. Forward (or parallel, sequence, random if you wish to forward to more than one user)
  b to SIP URI, IP Address, Phone Number or Ext.: (forward incoming calls to user@localdomain*) e.g. mike@smartcompany.com
  c Incoming Call Matching: (your ITSP phone no.) e.g. 086282828

* the localdomain can be your Internet Gate public IP address, e.g. 64.238.219.235 or your local domain address (dynamic or fixed DNS), e.g.smartcompany.com if you have configured one with the Internet Gate (see setup user accounts below).

Setup user account(s)
Below SIP Accounts and Incoming Call Processing, enter: (example)



  a Account type: User
  b Ext.: e.g. 10 (to reach this user on short extension no. 10)
  c SIP User Name: e.g. mike (the user's full contact name will be mike@localdomain*)
  d User ID: (make up an authentication name), e.g. mike
  e Password: (make up an authentication password)

* the localdomain can be your Internet Gate public IP address, e.g. 64.238.219.235 or your local domain address (dynamic or fixed DNS), e.g.smartcompany.com if you have configured one with the Internet Gate (see setup user accounts below).

Configure your SIP phone(s)/client(s)
To make calls to PSTN with you must setup your SIP phone(s)/client(s) or analogue phone connected to the FXS port to regisiter on your Internet Gate.

Typically you enter in your SIP phone/client: (example)

  a SIP Registrar or SIP Proxy address (in some clients, such as the ZyXEL Prestige 2000W, both is required), which is the domain on which you will be contacted: e.g. 64.238.219.235 or smartcompany.com (the public ip address of your Internet Gate or your local domain address if you have configured one with the Internet Gate)
  b Contact name: (make up a contact name) e.g. mike (to be contacted at mike@localdomain)
  c Authentication name: (the authentication name you have entered in the SIP Switch) e.g. mike
  d Authentication password (the authentication password you have entered in the SIP Switch)
  e Save your settings and restart your phone/client.
