Windows Messenger and SIP
All you need to get started with real-time communication based on SIP is Windows Messenger 4.7, which is a SIP based software included in Windows XP. You can also download it here.

Upgrading Windows XP with Windows Service Pack 2
When upgrading your Microsoft Windows XP System with Service Pack 2 (SP2) a Windows Messenger client without support for SIP is installed by default. You can easily get your SIP functionality back by installing Windows Messenger 5.0 and run a registry fix.

Instructions:
  1. Download and install Windows Messenger 5.0
  2. Download the Messenger fix
  3. to your hard drive.
  4. Install the fix by double clicking the downloaded file.
